The chairman of the Lagos State Archery Association, Bode Ojajuni has revealed that the association plans to recruit over 2000 to the sport soon.
Speaking during the associations inauguration of clubs and investiture of patrons at the Teslim Balogun Stadium at the weekend, Ojajuni, an AssistantCommissioner of Police, said the body was determined to make the sport as popular to youths as football.
At the event, the association officially inaugurated 25 clubs and five secondary schools.
ACP Ojajuni said the inauguration of 25 clubs by the association six months after its formation affirmed the position of the Lagos Archery Association Board as a pacesetter in terms of development, as well as the fastest growing sport association in Lagos State.
Ojajuni also revealed that the association has crafted a strategic plan to cover its term of office (2019-2023) by setting up training centres in five major divisions in the state, where athletes can train and improve their skills ahead of local andInternational competitions.
He thankedthe management of Loredo International Ventures, Raphtop Hotel, 12 Baskets and Rite Foods for their support.
Meanwhile, the President of the Nigeria Archery Federation, Mohammed Baba Abdullahi, who was represented by Mr. Patrick Ibeh, has commended ACP Ojajuni and his board for promoting the sport. He advised them not relent in their efforts because there are more tasks ahead.
At the event, a patron of the Nigeria Archery Federation, Prof. Tunde Makanju went down memory lane on the global history of archery, while Mr. Ladipo Alapini, a professional Archer demonstrated the practical aspect of the sport to the audience.
